Mario Party Superstars was released in October just in time for friends and families to have a fun new game to play during the end-of-the-year holidays. With all of the nostalgia that the game brings, it’s been understandably a popular pick for video game lovers.
Being as well-played as it is, players undoubtedly run into some of the same comical moments, frustrations, and victories over other players and the computer rivals. So, naturally, some fans have turned those feelings into hilarious memes for all Superstars lovers to enjoy.
“You’re Dead To Me”
Every Mario Party player knows that getting a star is an amazing feeling, and in Superstars, it takes even more work and more coins than in the basic format of the game. Therefore, it’s even more devastating when someone has the opportunity to steal one.
Emotions can escalate in any game, and when the fight for stars is especially dire, anyone who threatens to take them is Enemy Number 1 – and totally dead to the player they stole them from.
“So True, Mario Party Superstars”
Some of the funniest little moments are in the behind-the-scenes details of a game. Know Your Meme captured the essence of that by drawing attention to Superstars’ character description for Baby Penguin. It states, “The child of penguin who lives in a cold locale. Is a baby.”
While, technically, there’s nothing inaccurate in that description, it feels like someone who needs to reach a word count in an essay or doesn’t know the definition of a word, so they just sort of re-state the word without actually defining it . Either way, it’s a fun Easter egg within the game.
“New Game, New Me”
The attention span of many video game players is fleeting, especially when there are so many new games being released throughout the year. Whenever a new version of something comes out, it’s like the old one never existed.
Super mario party was the most recent edition of Mario Party available up until Superstars’ release, and fans have been loving one of the best-ranked Mario Party games on Metacritic. But, all good things must come to an end, and like Toy story’s Andy, fans have a shiny new toy to play with now.
“This Isn’t About Her”
The Rosalina love is evident with this hilarious post from the superstar herself. The idea of the characters using social media to troll each other is both amazing and super funny, especially considering Mario’s comment on the post.
Know Your Meme does have a point, though. Many times, all of the attention is on Princess Peach – even though she doesn’t rank higher than Rosalina as one of the Mario franchise’s most likable characters. Peach is always the one being coveted by other characters in the game, so Rosalina has no problem gliding away effortlessly while she’s caught in a coinado.
“Well Yes, But Actually No”
There are no friendships in Mario Party, and Memedroid was able to put the feeling of betraying your friend into a great meme featuring Pirate Captain from the show So You Want To Be A Pirate! The often misquoted dialogue line is a great representation of doing what you have to do to win.
When a player has the chance to pass Boo and have the right amount of coins to steal a star instead of just coins, anyone is fair game. Just because two people are friends in real life doesn’t mean their stars are off the table – it’s survival of the fittest on the board.
“Bowser Wants Communism”
There are a plethora of different punishments and events that take place during Superstars, but one that caught @elliotduby‘s funny bone was one in which Bowser decides to take coins away from everyone until they all have the same amount.
In essence, this is more of a tactic to even the playing field between characters, but when players look at it in a more political way it becomes a sort of comical display of Communism within the game. To make it even funnier, Bowser finishes with, “Nobody can say I didn’t make the world a better place, can they?”
“I’m You, But Better”
Many Mario Party veterans have joked that Mario Party: The Top 100 and Superstars are essentially the same concept, but Superstars’ application of that concept is just done better in a lot of ways.
The two games are “best of” compilations of boards, the best available minigames to play, and the best characters. Superstars has received a lot of praise for its content, while Top 100 received less-than-positive reviews. In fact, Top 100 has a MetaScore of only 59 and a User Score of 6.4, while Superstars clocks in at 80 with a User Score of 8.5.
“The Stickers Are The Best And The Worst”
The stickers have been a new addition to the Mario Party scene, and players are noticing some very peculiar character designs – specifically when it comes to Yoshi. Players can shout out several different messages to others throughout the game using a ton of different stickers.
For the most part, they’re really fun, but the sticker that the creators used for the “What ?!” sticker for Yoshi looks a bit NSFW to most and no one wants to see Yoshi like that. Ace @ Cosmo54 said, they’re kind of the best thing, but also the worst.
